How Do I Stop My Iphone From Auto Displaying New Texts

I don't want any random person to be able to read text messages off my iPhone screen. It displays the latest message I recieved as soon as you press the on button, even before unlocking it with my pin code. There must be a way to switch this feature off but I can't find it in any of my phone settings. Thanks for your help!
